Our National Coordinators

The Centre’s National Coordinator model increases community awareness of invasive species and their impacts. It facilitates and strengthens on-ground community efforts to support strong pest and weed management
approaches at national, state and local levels while fostering the
adoption of support systems and tools like PestSmart and FeralScan.

The Centre hosts three National Coordinators: Gillian Basnett, National Feral Cat and Fox Management Coordinator, Greg Mifsud, National Wild Dog Management Coordinator and Heidi Kleinert, National Feral Rabbit Management Coordinator.

See them in action!
Gillian Basnett and Thomas Nelson of the National Feral Cat & Fox Management Program are joined by Heidi Kleinert, National Feral Rabbit Management Coordinator at the Gippsland Weed and Pest Fest.
Our National Coordinators have a broad remit and work at national, state and local levels to foster the adoption of best practice invasive species management.

What do National Coordinators do to help manage invasive species?

National Coordinators work alongside communities right across Australia. Their work supports healthy environments, agricultural productivity and our way of life. Their roles include:

  • increasing community awareness of invasive species and their impacts
  • increasing and improving adoption of invasive species best practice management with initiatives such as the release of new planning and glovebox guides, and updating the PestSmart management toolkits
  • fostering increased collective action and community engagement for invasive species management
  • overseeing effective resource allocation in invasive species management and RD&E through better coordination, communication, and prioritisation.
