Summary

The NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (NSW DPIRD) Weeds Research Unit (WRU) is enhancing weed biological control (biocontrol) at state and national levels. Over the past five years, significant investments have been made to improve operations between the biocontrol quarantine research facilities at Orange Agricultural Institute (OAI) and the mass-rearing facilities at Grafton Primary Industries Institute (GPII). This project spans activities from research to implementation, supported by NSW DPIRD’s commitment to capability, infrastructure and a shared funding model.

Objectives

The objective of this project is:

  1. To invest in weed biocontrol agents, with the goal of streamlining the research through to implementation pipeline of new weed biocontrol agents and assess the effectiveness of previously released agents. This will see faster implementation of new biocontrol programs and reinforce existing ones.
