WeedRemeed™ trials take off
WeedRemeed™ is progressing through field trials, testing the potential of this drone-based AI technology to detect weeds across challenging landscapes.
Recent field trials have been successfully conducted at Queensland’s Edgebaston Reserve, focusing on Parkinsonia and the threatened Solanum adoxum – and another at Bullock Bridge Reserve, South Australia, where efforts centred on targeted Coastal Wattle. Imagery captured from these trials is now being analysed using WeedRemeed’s machine learning system.
Developed by the Centre in collaboration with 2pi Software, WeedRemeed combines low-cost drone technology, AI-driven image analysis, and colour-based recognition to enhance early detection of invasive weeds across varied landscapes. The project has reached several milestones, including the formation of a dedicated steering committee, early engagement with commercial partners, and submission of proposals to pilot proof-of-concept projects.
We’ll continue to share updates as the system develops and trials progress.
