Taking the feral cat message to AgFest 2026

The National Feral Cat and Fox Management Coordination Program participated in AgFest 2026, one of Australia’s largest agricultural field days.

The event, held at Carrick in northern Tasmania, provided a valuable opportunity to engage with landholders, researchers, conservation organisations, industry representatives and community members on the pest challenges facing Australia’s landscapes, agriculture and native wildlife.

As part of the event, National Feral Cat and Fox Management Coordinator, Yasmin Aly, took the opportunity to share current approaches to feral cat management, with a presentation highlighting the importance of coordinated, evidence-based action to reduce the impacts of feral cats on biodiversity and agricultural systems.

AgFest also provided an important platform for collaboration and knowledge sharing, bringing together organisations and individuals working across invasive species management and conservation. Discussions throughout the event reflected the strong interest in practical solutions and partnerships to address the ongoing challenges posed by invasive species.

The program was represented alongside Jess Ward-Jones (The Great Bug Hunt, Invasive Species Council), Claire Bookless (Invasive Species Council) and Dr Tianna Pirtle (Invasive Species Council).

Thank you to Landcare Tasmania for hosting, and everyone who visited the stand, attended presentations and contributed to the many valuable conversations throughout the event. Opportunities such as AgFest play an important role in building awareness, strengthening partnerships and supporting collective action for Australia’s environment.
