FeralScan and pest management workshops in NSW – 44 completed and counting

Forty-four training sessions for communities and pest management organisations have been delivered across NSW in 2020, as part of the Centre for Invasive Species Solutions FeralScan pest animal community monitoring program.

Led by NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) researcher and FeralScan coordinator, Peter West, and NSW DPI technical officer, Emma Sawyers, more than 600 people participated in these face-to-face and online sessions, learning about the FeralScan community monitoring program, www.feralscan.org.au, best practice pest animal management and the PestSmart website, www.pestsmart.org.au

Events were attended by community groups, professional pest controllers, NSW Local Land Services, NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service staff, natural resource managers, local government organisations and Landcare groups.

Special thanks go to NSW Local Land Services staff for their involvement.

All community participants were encouraged to join existing local coordinated pest control programs. Participants also received copies of relevant Glovebox Guides produced by the CISS and were encouraged to visit the PestSmart website.

Ms Sawyers’ contribution to the training program was made possible through special NSW Government pest management funds.

Training will continue in 2021. If you are interested in a training session for your community or organisation, please contact Peter West on 0407 622 191 or feralscan@feralscan.org.au

FeralScan is funded by the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Water and Environment, Australian Wool Innovation and NSW DPI through the Centre for Invasive Species Solutions.
