Research scientist wanted to develop mobile weed image recognition app


The Centre for Invasive Species Solutions is looking for an experienced Plant Biologist to play a leading role in a project aiming to produce a mobile image recognition tool (app) for the identification of a priority list of Australian weeds, and a complementary on-line WeedScan community management and communication system.

The successful candidate will manage the computer vision weed ID app part of the project, which includes project management, managing a technical officer, field work in various parts of Australia to obtain vouchered photographs of weed species, manage and organise an image collection, and train and performance-test image recognition models.

The project is a collaboration of the Centre for Invasive Species Solutions between the CSIRO, NSW, QLD, SA and VIC governments.

The position will be seconded to the CSIRO, Black Mountain Laboratories, Canberra and is full time and fixed term till 30 April 2023.

It is open to Australian citizens and permanent residents only.
