Weed Risk Australia goes live
Weed risk assessment plays a crucial role to support and inform weed prioritisation and decision-making by Australian governments and land managers.
A national online platform, Weed Risk Australia, was released in early 2025 following development in collaboration with state and territory governments through the Weed Risk Australia: Future-proofing Australia’s National Post-Border Weed Risk Management System project.

The site creates efficiencies by providing a central IT system for recording, viewing, and managing weed risk assessment methodologies and assessments. It streamlines the assessment process by providing a user-friendly interface and enabling internal data sharing between states and territories. The platform also increases transparency by allowing data owners to publish their assessments for public viewing if desired.
The Weed Risk Australia project was funded by the Australian Government’s Established Pest Animal and Weed Management Pipeline Program with co-funding and delivery by the NSW Government. The platform’s business owner is the Weeds Working Group, with hosting and maintenance by the Centre.
