Species/Threats: Weeds

Summary

Australia has 32 weeds of national significance (WoNS). To aid in managing these listed weeds, 27 WoNS manuals are critical for land managers. However, some sections have become outdated since they were first published.

The Centre contracted the update of the chemical, mechanical and biological control sections of these manuals. The new information was added as addenda.

The project also identified gaps in control methods for different weed species. This knowledge will help identify new research areas to find practical, appropriate solutions.

Key achievements

Outputs

Outcomes

  • Best practice weed management guides placed in the hands of stakeholders.

Impact

  • Contribution to reduced impact costs by updating and extending Weeds of National Significance (WoNS) manuals.
  • Increased effectiveness of RD&E associated with WoNS chemical, mechanical and biological control by identifying gaps in control methods for different weed species.
